  • Lyra Delos MC唱头

    While vinyl records played back with an MC cartridge can sound exceptionally good, it is a surprising fact that the design of conventional MCs restricts the sound quality that can be achieved from LPs. An essential factor for proper operation of an MC cartridge is the angle between the magnetic circuit, signal coils and core. Performance is optimal when the angles are all aligned, but any significant difference in the angles will cause the formation of a strong and directional flux that will flow constantly from the magnetic circuit into the signal core. This directional magnetic flux will orient the core toward a specific direction and make it impossible for the core to move with equal ease in all directions, which is necessary for proper cartridge performance. Unfortunately, conventional MC cartridges have been designed so that the angles between magnetic circuit, signal coils and core become aligned only when tracking force is not applied. The result is that during playback, the required tracking force causes the angle between magnetic circuit, signal coils and core to become misaligned. This limits the cartridge’s resolution, tracking ability and dynamic range. The new Lyra Delos is designed to conquer this problem. Compared to conventional cartridges, the Delos has a new body structure with an unusually shallow angle, and this has been paired with a unique asymmetrical damping system. When no tracking force is applied, the shape of the asymmetrical dampers forces the signal coils and core into a more upright angle than the magnetic circuit. However, no tracking force applied means that the cartridge is not operating, and therefore any angular discrepancies between magnetic circuit, signal coils and core will have no effect on performance. When tracking force is applied, however, the force of the stylus pushing on the LP causes the asymmetrical dampers to be deformed into a symmetrical shape, and when this happens the angular discrepancies between magnetic circuit, signal coils and core all disappear. Since tracking force applied means that the cartridge is now operating, it should be clear that the design of the Delos is able to keep the angles between the magnetic circuit, signal coils and core aligned during playback. Keeping the proper angular alignment prevents the formation of any strong and directional flux that could otherwise flow constantly from the magnetic circuit into the signal core, and enables the Delos’ core to move with equal ease in all directions, for optimal performance. The Delos also has a microridge stylus on a boron cantilever for outstanding tracking, a non-parallel solid machined metal body for low resonances, and 6-N high-purity copper coils and nude construction for greater clarity. The result is clearly improved sound quality, particularly resolution, tracking ability, dynamic range, transient impact and immediacy. Its copper-wire coils are wound on an air-core former, bathed in the flux lines of a samarium-cobalt magnet; a line-contact stylus is fitted to the business end of its boron cantilever. Specs include an output of 0.3mV and an impedance of 18 ohms: a curious combination, as the latter seems much higher than the former would lead one to expect. Recommended downforce is 2gm. With the Tedeska in his system, MF expressed some disappointment that macrodynamics were less than fully expressed—"I wanted more oomph"—but praised the DST201UA as "a well-balanced, high-performance cartridge that bridges the gap between being too soft and too analytical."

    The MC A Mono is a TRUE MONO cartridge for play-back of MONO recordings.  If you play a MONO record with a stereo cartridge you will not achieve the same signal in the two channels due to imperfections such as crosstalk, noise, phase errors, tracking error, antiskating and distortion. This difference between the channels will result in an unstable and partially fuzzy image. A mono switch, to some extent, can improve this. Playing MONO record with a TRUE MONO cartridge will have none of the aforementioned problems, as this cartridge only produces one signal, which afterwards is directed to both channels in the system. This will provide a much more forceful and stable image with a fuller sound. Another significant advantage of using a TRUE MONO cartridge to play MONO records is the absence of response to vertical movement. This means that a TRUE MONO cartridge is essentially impervious to the pinching effect which comes into action when the stylus is pushed vertically upward in very narrow grooves. In addition, the response to dust, dirt and wear will be reduced substantially as the vertical component will not be heard. The final result will be a much more clean and noiseless reproduction of the MONO record. These effects simply cannot be achieved merely by the use of a mono switch. However, it was not a good thing if it was heavy, but we needed ingenuity of material and structure. The completed sound is a balance like an isosceles triangle. The bass is thick and tight. Mid-range is firmly insisted. A treble that has no useless resonance is realistic. Sound separation is the best ever. It is feeling that all the performers are putting their feet on the ground. The sound image is stable, there is spreading and depth and presence. When you finish listening to the LP, you will feel like clapping players unintentionally. Destiny of the stereo cartridge used bamboo cantilever and LC solid diamond stylus. Bamboo cantilever is tapered. It is light and strong by careful processing. Until now, we have weighted the head shell and adjusted the weight with a spacer. However, it seems to be a little different from when we heavy the cartridge body. Low-frequency energy is strong. I would like to listen to drums and bass' s Arco style all the time. Vocals are fresh. There is little sense of distortion, and it reproduces to very small sounds. By making the body heavy, the extra sound generated by the intense movement of the needle point is gone. Since the self weight of the cartridge became heavier, it is necessary to select the arm, but it was able to demonstrate the merit of the cross ring method to the maximum.
  • Lyra Atlas λ Lambda SL唱头

    The Atlas λ is Lyra’s new flagship phono cartridge. Why asymmetric? By literally misplacing the “barriers” to great sound that are present in every other cartridge today, a number of important performance benefits are realized. First, different-shaped structures on the left and right sides of the cartridge body suppress the formation of standing waves within, resulting in a significant reduction of resonance-induced colorations. Second, the asymmetric construction offsets the front magnet carrier and its associated mounting system so that it is no longer in line with the cantilever assembly. This opens up a direct, solid path between the cantilever assembly and tonearm headshell so that vibrations from the cantilever can be quickly drained away once they have been converted into electrical signals, again suppressing induced resonances. Lyra remains the only cartridge manufacturer to mount the cantilever assembly directly into the cartridge body thereby achieving a seamless, totally rigid connection between the cantilever assembly and headshell. The effectiveness of this system has been enhanced as a result of the asymmetrical structure of the Atlas λ Lambda. Control over spurious resonances is further assisted by the use of a narrowed mounting area, which couples the Atlas λ more tightly to the headshell and facilitates the transfer of vibrational energy into the tonearm. The Atlas λ Lambda retains the yokeless dual magnet system, diamond-coated boron rod cantilever and variable-radius line-contact stylus of the prior Atlas. The Atlas λ Lambda uses Lyra’s “New Angle” technology, which mechanically pre-biases the signal coils so that they are perfectly aligned to the front and rear magnets when LP playback takes place. This equalizes out discrepancies in vertical and horizontal compliances and enables the Atlas λ Lambda coils to move with equal ease in all directions for optimal performance. A seldom-mentioned yet key factor in defining the performance and sound of a phono cartridge is the suspension and damper system. A cantilever’s materials, dimensions and constructions all affect the sound in unique ways, and unless the dampers and suspension are engineered to be a suitable match to the cantilever chosen, the sound and performance will not be optimal. For Lyra’s post-2008 New Angle models (Delos, Kleos, Etna, Atlas) we developed tapered dampers to pre-load the cantilever downwards when it is in the rest position, so that the application of vertical tracking force (VTF) will bring the coil angle into alignment with the magnets when the cartridge is in the playing position. Our continued research into dampers and suspension systems has now led to the next level up - Lambda. Lambda separates the tapered dampers of the New Angle cartridges into flat elastomer discs (for damping) and an additional support “pillow” to serve as the cantilever pre-loading element. This division allows the use of more specialized materials that are better suited to their individual tasks. The Lambda Atlas and Etna thereby continue the New Angle benefits (coil and magnet angles become aligned when the cartridge is in the playing position), but stability and sonic performance are significantly improved. The Lambda improvements apply to both the single coil layer models (Atlas SL, Etna SL) and the standard double coil layer models (Atlas, Etna). Likewise for the Atlas Mono and Etna Mono models. The Atlas λ Lambda uses a body that is meticulously carved from a solid billet of titanium, through a process that involves both contact (for the exterior) and non-contact machining (for the interior body structures). By making most of the Atlas λ Lambda body surfaces non-parallel (avoiding dimensions that are multiples of other dimensions) and adding a pre-stressed phase-interference resonance-controlling system, resonances have been further inhibited. We firmly believe that the Atlas λ Lambda represents an important step forward in LP playback. Key to the Haniwa cartridge's performance is its ultralow (0.2 ohm) impedance—a near-short characteristic that qualifies it for use with a current-amplification phono pre, such as Haniwa's own HEQ-A03-C1 ($12,000). Indeed, MF used the HCTR-CO with that very preamp, as well as his similarly current-friendly CH Precision P1. Used with the latter and installed in his reference SAT tonearm, the Haniwa cartridge impressed MF as the "speediest" Matsudaira design he has heard and declared that the HCTR-CO "did everything well and had no obvious faults—or subtle ones, for that matter."

  • Aidas Baby Mammoth唱头

    该产品入选下列获奖项目: 【精选专题】《Stereo Times》评选2010-2020年最受欢迎器材 For you analogphiles out there who crave a smooth yet detailed turntable-based system, try putting one of these in your favorite tonearm, sit back and enjoy the ride.  The Aidas Baby Mammoth Cartridge reminded me of my favorite Koetsu from back in the day, only with better detail and focus, closer to lifelike dynamics with a punchier, more extended bass.  Setup is very critical for this cartridge, most cartridges really, but especially this one.  The Baby Mammoth will surprise you with its tracking ability and the sense that it has no problems navigating the difficult passages some classical albums can present with their loud complex passages.  The Baby Mammoth was able to handle these with ease and is a very fine offering from Aidas.

The cartridge’s body is made with the ivory from 23,000 year old Siberian wooly mammoth tusks. The properties of this ivory are said to be closest to that of human bones and have similar resonance characteristics. Resonance control is a major variable in analogue system design and setup. Now this may sound creepy but bear in mind that the human bones that this material is most like are the Auditory Ossicle bones that are located in the middle ear. Make of that what you will, but it kind of makes sense.  The Mammoth Gold is a low-output moving coil cartridge that uses a Namiki Micro Ridge stylus and a Namiki/Adamant boron composite cantilever. The 0.03mm copper wires are slightly more refined than those used on the Black Sound-Red Heart. It connects the coils coming from the cantilever run through nicely soldered brass conduits, which connect to the output pins. According to Simakov: “The generator and driver parts are made of titanium, wolfram, gold, silver, copper and a specially formulated damping compound. More than 200 different compound types were tested just to tune the cartridge. Specially designed damping systems have two unique tiers of compound around the generator and tension cord, along with cantilever damping pack. One part of the damper is just few microns thick and is a piece of art on it's own. The price of this cartridge reflects not just the type of component materials being used, but the production time that is five times more than other Aidas cartridges. The fine tuning of Mammoth Gold takes nearly 15 hours after final assembly is done.” Like I said of the Black Sound-Red Heart, these cartridges are sleek yet robust looking and are as well-built an open-bodied cartridge as I have ever seen. But because of the use of exotic materials, the Mammoth Gold increases the “high-end factor” by a multiple of ten. Thankfully, this new cartridge is only about 2 ½ times the price of its more affordable sibbling. But does that make it a better bargain, or a bargain at all? Read on.
